The Universal Model of Courage

This model is in draft version and is the ongoing work of a research project called The Courage Project. This work aims to provide organisations with a solid foundation for leadership development programs and help individual leaders and managers find the courage within themselves to do the right thing and what needs to be done in a way that nurtures and builds trust and relationships.


Courage is the foundation for all individuals who can contribute to an outcome. Without courage, behaviours become reactive, extreme, and counterproductive in the long term.


Research

The Courage Project is a research initiative designed for two outcomes. The first is to analyse stories of courage to find patterns in how courage can be found even in the hardest circumstances. The second is to listen to each story and be inspired by its courage, hoping that we can find the courage we need to face the things in our own lives.


We are considering two different contexts of courage; these are

a) people who have either faced difficult circumstances in their lives and found the courage to face them or

b) have chosen to step up and change something in the world that has taken great courage to face.
